Dr. Cindy MacQuarrie

Senior Director, Interprofessional Practice and Learning

For the last twenty years, Dr. Cindy MacQuarrie has explored interprofessional (IP) teams from a personal and professional perspective. Since 2009, Cindy has initiated, led and managed organizational change required to foster interprofessional education and practice. In her role as a Senior Director of Interprofessional Practice and Learning, she shares expertise on interprofessional practice and scopes of practice matters. She leads in a collaborative, inclusive and participatory way while striving for practice excellence.

Cindy holds a PhD from the University of Alberta, where her research focuses on entry level nurse experiences with interprofessional collaboration in IP teams in Nova Scotia. She has received several awards and distinctions throughout her career, including three community service awards: one for her work during the Swiss Air Disaster, another for her volunteer work in making NS beaches more accessible, and one most recently for her leadership role during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the years, Cindy has received teaching excellence awards from undergraduate nursing learners at the University of Calgary and more recently, she was nominated by her peers to receive the Nursing Leadership award given each year by the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
