Headshot of Michael Warner

The Nova Scotia Health Innovation Hub is the front door to innovation at Nova Scotia Health. It’s a dynamic space where healthcare providers, researchers, innovators, patients and government come together to tackle some of the province’s biggest healthcare challenges.

By fostering collaboration and creativity, we accelerate the development and adoption of solutions that improve care for Nova Scotians today and shape a stronger, more sustainable healthcare system for tomorrow.

Fresh perspectives, bold ideas and genuine enthusiasm are driving forces behind meaningful change in healthcare and we’re proud to have a team that reflects a wide range of backgrounds, disciplines and skills.

This diversity fuels our ability to think differently, adapt quickly and make an impact across every aspect of our work.

Among the talented members of our team is Michael Warner, Business Development Coordinator

Can you tell us about your educational/career journey to date and what led you to join the Health Innovation Hub?

I started my educational journey at Dalhousie University, where I graduated with a double major in History and Political Science. After that, I completed my Bachelor of Education at Mount Saint Vincent University, where I briefly worked at the jr. high and high school level across HRM. I decided to go back to school again, returning to Dalhousie to do my Master’s in Business Administration. Following graduation, I started at the Health Innovation Hub and have now been here for roughly a year and a half!

What is your current role at the Health Innovation Hub, and what does a typical day look like for you?

My current role at the Health Innovation Hub is as a Business Development Coordinator, where I mainly support our intake stream and partnerships portfolio. A typical day for me involves communicating with our partners and supporting across a wide variety of digital projects.

What projects or initiatives are you currently working on that you're most excited about?

I’m very excited about some of the digital projects we have both currently rolled out and in our pipeline! I think they will lead to substantial improvements in care, but also in how care is administered and help support clinical staff as well.

How do you see your work impacting healthcare transformation in Nova Scotia or beyond?

Supporting our digital portfolio of work I’m able to see how we directly support healthcare transformation in Nova Scotia. I’ve also been lucky to support on a research project that directly impacts patients without a family doctor and supports system mapping (the process of creating a visual of a system to understand its components, their interrelationships, and overall dynamics).

What does 'innovation in healthcare' mean to you, and how do you apply that in your role?

For me, innovation in healthcare means to consistently build on the excellent ongoing work in our system, and to support and enable our clinical teams to continue to deliver excellent care to Nova Scotians.
