Azza Mohamed is a Registered Nurse who has been working in healthcare for over 30 years. She recently began her role as the Health Services Manager at the Victoria General Hospital, and brings a vast set of experience to her new role.
Mohamed first studied nursing at Alexandria University in Egypt, where she began her nursing career. She then moved to Saudi Arabia and worked in various nursing positions.
“[I became a nurse to] improve the health and well-being of my community,” says Mohamed. “Nurses have the opportunity to positively impact their patients’ lives, which can be a very rewarding experience.”
Mohamed came to Nova Scotia and began working as a Registered Nurse at the Dartmouth General Hospital’s Medical Palliative Ward in 2005. In 2011, she began working as the Nursing Services Manager for VON Canada, and completed a Master of Health Administration in 2017 and then began a position as the Director of Care at Arborstone Advanced Care - Shannex. In 2019, Mohamed began working as the Health Services Manager in Neurosciences at the Halifax Infirmary, where she remained until April 2023, when she transitioned to her new role as Health Services Director.
“As a Director, I have shared accountability for setting priorities and implementing strategies that support high quality, safe, cost effective, person-centred care,” says Mohamed. “The Director facilitates and champions a learning and research environment that aligns with the current and proposed future state of Nova Scotia Health.”
Throughout her career, Mohamed has been able to combine her nursing and medical knowledge with her natural leaderships skills to grow her career while ensuring that her community is receiving the best possible healthcare.
“Nursing offers many opportunities for professional development and advancement. Nurses can specialize in different areas of healthcare and pursue advanced degrees to further their careers,” says Mohamed.
“[I would absolutely recommend others to pursue a career in nursing,] especially if they are motivated to improve the health and wellbeing of their community and if they are looking for rewarding challenges,” says Mohamed. “Nursing is a very rewarding profession.”
