Krista Fraser is a Registered Nurse who has been working in healthcare for 10 years. She recently began a new role as a Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Administrator in Nova Scotia Health’s Eastern Zone.

“For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a nurse. Family members called me Nurse Nightingale from a young age. I always felt it was my responsibility to look after any family or friend who was unwell,” says Fraser. “A need to help others and a desire to work in a career that was interesting, challenging, and has a wide range of fields and specialties all led to me choosing to become a nurse.”

Fraser began her healthcare career as a nurse at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on a medical and surgical floor where she worked for over seven years. Then, she worked in Interprofessional Practice and Leadership (IPPL) as a Nurse Mentor, working with student nurses.

After years of working as a nurse, Fraser became physically unable to continue working on a medical or surgical floor. Instead of letting her physical limitations stop her from continuing her healthcare career, Fraser transitioned to her current role as an RQI Administrator in April 2023. In her position, Fraser helps with the training and support of other healthcare professionals in Basic Life Support.

“Our diverse industry afforded me the opportunity to learn new skills and continue making a difference as a healthcare provider,” says Fraser. “I am thrilled to be able to work from home as part of the RQI team.”

Fraser’s new role allows her to continue to fulfill her passion for helping others. “I look forward to being continually inspired by the larger team of Nova Scotia’s healthcare providers,” says Fraser.

May 8-14 is National Nurses Week, and we are taking the opportunity to learn more about the many nurses who work for Nova Scotia Health and showcase the important roles that they play in a patient’s health-care journey. Thank you for all you do.
