The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) at Nova Scotia Health helps ensure that research and innovation involving biological materials is conducted safely, responsibly, and in accordance with national standards.
The IBC reviews projects that use biohazardous agents, human samples, or other regulated biological materials to confirm appropriate safety measures are in place to protect patients, staff, the public, and the environment. Working alongside Research Ethics Boards and operational partners, the IBC supports high-quality research while maintaining the highest standards of biosafety across the health system.
