Moving from idea to intellectual property
1. Research/Discovery
- Research and discovery activities such as systematic investigations or experiments lead to inventions and discoveries.
2. Invention Disclosure
- Invention disclosure is the filling of a confidential document which contains important information relating to your invention or discovery, such as the names of the inventor(s), title of the invention, a description of the invention or discovery, resources used, and more.
3. Assessment
- Nova Scotia Health will evaluate disclosed intellectual property for technical and commercial potential within 30 days of receiving a completed and signed disclosure form.
4. Protection
- Taking steps to protect the intellectual property rights in any invention, including patent filing.
5. Licensing
- A legal agreement that gives someone permission to use a work, under certain conditions, for certain purpose.
6. Commercialization
- The process of bringing intellectual property into a market where it can become beneficial to society. This includes making, using, selling, marketing, and distributing intellectual property.
