Shruti Predhep – Winter 2025 Medventions Atlantic Fellow

Antony Shruti Predhep is a biomedical engineer with a master's in rehabilitation sciences, specializing in assistive technology. During her graduate studies, Shruti observed a recurring challenge: many assistive technologies, despite being innovative, were not being embraced by the people they were meant to help. This sparked her interest in user research and understanding the nuances of user acceptance.

Shruti is curious about how people’s perspectives, experiences, and behaviours shape their interaction with technology. She approaches problems with empathy, believing the best solutions aren’t just functional but also resonate with the people they’re meant to help. By combining design thinking, user research, and health economics, she focuses on developing practical and inclusive solutions.

When she’s not working, she enjoys experimenting with textured art mediums and ceramics.

Now, as she joins the Medventions Atlantic program, Shruti is excited to refine her skills and develop solutions that bring genuine value to vulnerable populations. This opportunity aligns with her goal of pursuing a career in human factors engineering, where she plans to continue designing for impact and inclusivity.

Jacqueline DeJarnette - Winter 2025 Medventions Atlantic Fellow

Having graduated in June 2024 with an honours degree in neuroscience from the University of Alberta, Jacqueline DeJarnette developed a strong interest in neuropsychopharmacology, biotechnology, and medical innovation, particularly at the intersection of pharmacological care, biotechnology, and medical devices.

During her undergraduate studies, she completed her thesis at The NeuroRecovery Lab, a preclinical spinal cord injury lab, investigating how socialization and housing impact recovery in mouse models. This experience sparked her passion for exploring how environmental factors affect recovery and for improving innovation in rehabilitation technologies. She also contributed to the development of a mouse harness system for a novel treadmill designed to aid locomotion training, which allowed her to apply creative problem-solving skills in prototyping. Through her thesis, she honed her ability to identify knowledge gaps, design experiments, think critically, and found a passion for improving patient care.

Jacqueline is eager to explore these interests further in a hands-on, multidisciplinary environment like the Medventions Atlantic program while gaining more experience in biomedical engineering and the healthcare system.

In her spare time, Jacqueline enjoys planning new travel destinations, relaxing with her cat, and finding the best coffee spot in town for reading, studying, or chatting with a friend.

Christian Moya-García - Winter 2025 Medventions Atlantic Fellow

Christian Moya-García, a doctor in biological and biomedical engineering and an associate member of the American Association for Cancer Research, has long had an interest in clinical and translational research and is an advocate for implementing artificial intelligence in health.

In recent years, Christian has gained extensive experience, building on an educational background that includes a PhD in biological and biomedical engineering, an MPhil in materials science, and a BSc in biomedical engineering. He also holds multiple certifications related to medtech and innovation. He is passionate about biotech and tech entrepreneurship.

In his spare time, Christian enjoys working out and taking care of himself. He also enjoys traveling, playing video games, and attending immersive experiences and art galleries. He likes attending music festivals and discovering bars and restaurants in different cities.

He hopes the Medventions Atlantic program will provide him with more experience in medical innovation and professional connections within the field to support his entrepreneurial journey. He also aims to continue contributing to programs like Medventions to help support the Canadian medtech industry.
